The Agapanthus flowers (Agapanthus praecox) are evergreen and grow up to 1.5 m. in height. The inflorescence (flower head) can be up to 200 mm. in diameter with as many as 100 individual flowers in the head. The Agapanthus is found growing wild on rocky slopes in the south east of South Africa and flowers between December and January. The Dwarf Agapanthus (A. africanus) is much smaller with about 18 deep blue flowers in the head. The Drooping Agapanthus (A. inapertus) is deciduous with deep blue drooping flowers.
